Looks like you have a very nice shohin size Juniper. Have you thought about what you want the tree to look like for the long term?
For learning how to trim (from reading) I suggest a book titled "Step by Step Guide to Growing and Displaying Bonsai" written by Colin Lewis. I feel is the BEST basic bonsai book ever written. I highly recommend it. Of course in the book is instruction on pruning bonsai as well as other excellent info. It is hard to tell someone how to prune without being there with them and having a tree to prune as well. However Colin's book does it in simple to understand language with great pictures.
Now here is the dreaded caveat.... The book is out of print..... HOWEVER you can find copies from time to time on Ebay, Amazon and Half.com etc. Best advice other than joining a local bonsai club for some hands on practice is look for this book and secure yourself a copy! I know you are looking for a local club in your area. I wish I could help you with that. I know there are bonsai clubs in Australia the BIG question is there one in your area? Have you tried to "Google" for a bonsai club near you?
ciao!

My biggest problem is being afraid if I start to trim I might wreck things. It is a sturdy little tree so for starters it most probably needs to be thinned out a bit so I can get an idea of what it may need do you think?.I have aquired a very interesting book for beginners so will get down to some serious reading.
