Dead Wood on Japanese Maple
I purchased a Japanese Maple that is a depiction of a lightning struck tree. It has a dead piece of trunk with limbs growing out below the dead wood. I am concerned that this wood will eventually rot (it is kept outside)and ruin the effect. Is there some way to protect this wood? Thanks, Allen

the jin (dead wood) should have been treated already to perserve it before you purchased the tree. if not, you can always do this yourself by coating the dead area with lime sulphur. here's a link to buy it from bonsai oulet.
