My taiwan ficus is rapidly shedding leaves!
Hello, My taiwan ficus is rapidly shedding leaves like raindrops. If I don't water it they still drop off. Quite concerned I don't understand what it needs. It's little twigs have grown about 3 inches, they are quite 'leggy' now, but sparse new leaves are forming and quite pale green. I bought it 2 months ago from a garden centre but the instructions are quite general. It seems, since I brought it home it has had a growing spurt and no longer looks full and lush but leggy and sparce. Should I prune it? stop watering in? feed it? re-pot it? It's about 3 ft high with a strong thick twisted trunk. It used to have a crown but that's gone now. On the sales ticket it says it was nurtured for 10 years. So what's a person to do?

Hi Mira,
It's typical for a ficus to lose leaves, especially as it adapts itself to its new location. Is you ficus getting enough light?
Do not transplant, prune, or fertilize your bonsai if it looks stressed. Make sure that it gets plenty of water and hopefully it will bounce back. Once it returns to health, you can start fertilizing it again, but in low doses. Try an organic fertilizer as its gentle on the roots.
We have some general ficus care instructions on the community - hopefully you will find those helpful.
thank you
